Apache's Best Projects - 10 years past and 10 years future

Posted on 2009-09-03 10:10

EWeek recent post , which symbolizes the importance of Apache Software Foundation by highlighting some of the best known projects from the organization that have transformed computing and information technology  - is a tribute to the community's 10th anniversary as well as its immense progress. Some of the notables are Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat and Apache Ant.

The exciting part of the of the post was the prediction of the future projects that will have an impact on computing as we know it. Some of them are Apache Jackrabbit, Hadoop and Apache Sling.

As our clients and partners are aware as well as many others, we at eForce have worked on many of these projects and our clients have absolutely loved the work that we have had and are producing - using these tools. JCRDEV is a project that is run entirely off Apache Sling which internally uses Apache Jackrabbit to store content. Apache Hadoop is used constantly at eForce in large scale deployments.

It is worth taking a look at eForce Labs, to see the new developments/projects that we are working on that might be made opensoruce or freemium. Solutions are born out of bridging tools together to solve certain business problems. No one will ever be able to solve a problem by just using Apache Jackrabbit or Apache HTTP Server for that matter - but the creativity that goes behind using the mod_rewrite module to achieve a particular deployment scenario for a client with multiple websites together with creating a user interface that allows you to talk to a Jackrabbit repository so that it can hold the website content - I believe that is where eForce exceeds and does well with such open source tools provided by the ASF.
